A Little Bit About Me...

So you wan't to know some more about me?  If not, then I'm sorry to say you're in the wrong place.  But if you do, I'm sure there is plenty here for your interest.

I am a 35-year old, single male, currently living in Modesto, CA. Though I moved here from the San Francisco Bay area about four years ago,  I have lived all over the world, especially during my youth.  But I am very anxious to return to the San Francisco Bay Area.  I have an incredible 4 year-old son named Sage, and two awesome mother-and-daughter Alaskan Malamute hybrids named Tika and Chiquita .

I  was born, and spent most of my youth, on New York's Long Island, where most of my family still lives.  Though I did a lot of 're-locating ' in the 1970's, I didn't really leave New York until I left to go to college at the University of California, Santa Barbara when I was 17.  After several years of college-life, and getting my own computer consulting business off the ground with the help of some younger fellow alumni, I moved to the Santa Cruz mountains in October of 1998.  Unfortunately, the current ecoomic slump hit me early on, and I was laid off in 2001, less than 6 months after my son Sage was born.  So to save money, I moved in with my cousin Scott, here in the heart of California's agricultural empire. Needless to say, when you move from the coastlands, to a baking dry inland valley surrounded by dairy farms, the odor and air quality takes a significant amount of adjustment.

Scott's and my father are identical twins, so in some ways, living with him is kind of like living with a brother.  Both of us are only children, so this has worked out just fine for both of us.  Needless to say, there is much we have in common, as well as quite a few things that make us distinct. Though we spent a lot of time together when I was a toddler (which I barely remember), Scott and I only saw each other twice between 1976 and 1998.  Since then, we have had a great opportunity to learn about our family, and ourselves.

I  hope to be adding more to this part of the site in the near future, so the links in the scrollbar at left are still under construction and won't take you anywhere useful until then. After I get some of the more important pages done or underway, I'll spend some more time on this page being a little more introspective, and give you a closer look into my psyche, if you dare...

Career & Hobbies

In case you can't tell, I work with computers. Actually, I have been using one kind of computer or another since the 70's. The first systems I played with used punch cards and didn't even have video screens. As I grew up, I went through almost every early computer and video game console there was. I published my first software program when I was 16, and after college, did some statistical analysis and later internal computer support for several high-end networking firms.  Then in 1995, I started a small company with four recent graduates from UCSB. What started as a small company doing computer tutoring and repair for home-users, quickly became a significant Systems Integration and Microsoft support firm in the Santa Barbara area in less than 2 years. It started out with 5-digit credit-card debt and operated from a small desk in a fraternity house. Yet by the time I left my position as Chief Technical Officer in 1998, we had established a reputable corporation that employed nine people.  If you want to know even more about my professional history, feel free to check out my rèsumè, or visit my professional page(s).

Today, I still spend a majority of my time on a computer, though I am hopeful to be able to spend more time with my son. However, there are several things in my life to keep me from being completely absorbed in the digital world. As I mentioned above, I have an adorable little boy that has made me so happy to be a father, and I make sure to devote at least one day a week to him, even though he lives 100 miles away. I also have my two dogs, who faithfully remain at my feet and enjoy every opportunity to frolic, quite content to do so on my schedule.  My grandmother, whom I lived with through much of my pre-teen years in New York, was a reknowned gourmet chef, so I very much like to cook in the cuisines I learned from her (mostly French & Italian). I also have an almost obsessive interest in fantasy literature or anything to do with dragons and wizards. However, unlike most of those people, I am NOT a sci-fi nut (excluding Star Wars and an occassional Star Trek movie/epsiode). But when it comes to Tolkien, R.A. Salvatore, Dragonlance, and Arthurian legends, then you have my undying interest. Finally, I really enjoy collecting crystals and stones.
